Sikh man beaten mercilessly on Mexico border in viral video

The person has not been identified as yet, but, presumably, he was trying to enter the US illegally

In a shocking case, a video has emerged of a young Sikh man being beaten mercilessly and treated in an inhumane fashion by some people in Mexico.

The video that is going viral, which was also shared by New York-based activist and former candidate for New York state senate Japneet Singh, shows the Sikh man being stripped and caned as he cries in pain.

The person has not been identified as yet, but, presumably, he was trying to enter the US illegally via the Mexico border.

The video also shows some men stomping the Sikh man with their feet as bystanders watch. He can be seen folding his hands and requesting his attackers to stop, but then he is beaten more.

Sharing the video, Singh said, “This is a deeply concerning matter. Please use whatever platform you have to create awareness.”

Singh, who has been trying on social media to identify the man, told the American Bazaar, while they have not been able to trace the video, “It seems like the guard made it and sent it out.”

Singh tagged human rights watch on the video to alert them to the treatment meted out to the young man.

While sharing the video, Singh also said, “This isn’t just about this brother, it’s also about all the brothers and sisters that we’ve lost and will lose due to the obstacles this type of risk involves. We must start talking and educating each other on this topic.”

Commenting on the video, people have expressed disgust at the way migrants are treated, but they also spoke about how it is important for youth to understand the consequences of their actions.

Time and again stories of young men facing the brunt of illegal migration have emerged. Back in 2016, a young man from Punjab had also recorded the ordeals he faced while traveling from India to the US via Mexico following the ‘donkey route’ – a term used to denote migration through illegal crossing of borders.

While illegal migration remains a point of concern, activists urge that illegal migrants should not be so tortured as it appears to be in the video.
