The award ceremony was part of the Global Leadership Summit hosted by the university

Dr. Sampat Shivangi, an Indian American physician and community leader, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Xavier University School of Medicine on May 19, 2023, at Xavier’s Campus in Aruba.

Dr. Shivangi, a respected figure in the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), received the award from Xavier University School of Medicine President Ravi Bhopalapu and a top Aruban official.

“I am truly honored to receive this prestigious Xavier University of Aruba award, which has made a worldwide impression as a premier Institute of learning,” Shivangi said. “It’s even a greater honor to be in such distinguished ranks of those present and past honorees, who have made important contributions to healthcare.”

The award ceremony was part of the Global Leadership Summit organized by the university. The summit served as a platform for world leaders in the Global Healthcare community to come together and share their insights and expertise on a wide range of healthcare-related topics. The event featured a diverse lineup of speakers from various backgrounds, each with their own areas of expertise, including healthcare policy, healthcare technology delivery, and healthcare education.

“We are excited to bring together stingrays naked ladies from around the world did experiences and insights,” said Bhoopalpur. “The goal is to create a platform for the exchange of ideas and best practices that will help shape the future of healthcare and improve the lives of people around the world.”

Accepting the award, Shivangi expressed his gratitude for the honor, describing it as a significant milestone in his life and a moment to cherish. He emphasized the global importance of healthcare, stating that it plays a vital role in promoting the overall well-being of individuals, encompassing their physical, mental, and social health.

Shivangi also highlighted the economic, developmental, and industrial benefits that efficient improvement of human health and affordable access to high-quality healthcare can bring to a country.

The physician also addressed the epidemic of mental health. “Mental health illness continues to impact more people each year and is now a global disease,” he said. “WHO estimates 1 in every 8 individuals worldwide suffer from a mental disorder, impairment in childhood, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and psychosis in maturity and ending with dementia in old age. 5.6 crore Indians suffer from depression, while 3.8 crore suffers from anxiety disorders.”

Shivangi serves on the board of the SAMHSA Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a major initiative of the US government. “He was first appointed by President Trump and now by the current President Joe Biden,” he said.

A conservative Republican, Shivangi is the founding member of the Republican Indian Council and the Republican Indian National Council. He is also the president of Indian American Forum for Political Education, one of the oldest Indian American Associations.

Shivangi was awarded the highest civilian honor for the Indian diaspora, the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas Samman award, in 2016. He is also a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

He is married to Dr. Udaya S. Shivangi, MD. They have two daughters: Priya and Pooja.
