The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to unfold across a total of three venues in the USA and six in the Caribbean, as the groups and fixtures for the ninth edition of this thrilling 20-over showcase were officially unveiled on Friday, January 5.
In the USA, where the tournament kicks off, ten of the 20 participating teams will embark on their T20 World Cup journey. Sixteen exhilarating contests will take place in Lauderhill, Dallas, and New York, promising cricket fans a thrilling spectacle. Notably, the much-anticipated showdown between cricketing giants India and Pakistan is scheduled to ignite the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island on June 9, setting the stage for a blockbuster clash of titans.
Commencing on June 1, 2024, this cricketing extravaganza is set to kick off with an electrifying clash between co-hosts the United States and their northern neighbors, Canada, right in the heart of Dallas, Texas. The cricket fever doesn’t stop there, as the West Indies, another co-host, step onto the field the very next day in Guyana, squaring off against the formidable team from Papua Guinea.
The tournament is structured into four fiercely competitive groups, each comprising five teams vying for supremacy. The top two contenders from each group will earn their coveted tickets to the prestigious Super Eight phase, paving the way for an exhilarating journey towards the knockout semi-finals and, ultimately, the grand finale.
In Group A, co-hosts USA are set to clash with arch-rivals India and Pakistan, adding a layer of intense rivalry to the competition. They will be joined by Canada, making their maiden appearance in this prestigious event, and the European side Ireland, promising fierce battles and unexpected twists.
Group B promises to be no less intense, with the last two champions of the Men’s T20 World Cup, England and Australia, gearing up to face off against Namibia, Scotland, and Oman in a battle of cricketing giants.
Meanwhile, Group C sees the West Indies, a formidable force in the cricketing world, lock horns with New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea, setting the stage for unforgettable showdowns.
In Group D, the cricketing action continues to sizzle as South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Nepal square off against each other in an exhilarating clash of skills and determination.
