Indian American Impact Fund launches Desi President Artist Ambassador Program
The Indian American Impact Fund has launched its 2024 Desi President Artist Ambassador program to mobilize South Asian and Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters for Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris.
The initiative, chaired by composer and performer Ari Afsar and South Asian Trailblazers founder Simi Shah, unites 18 South Asian artists across the country to promote voter engagement and support for the Indian American candidate’s presidential campaign.
The program highlights the role of art in activism, with a focus on amplifying the voices of South Asian and AAPI communities. “Art changes culture, and culture changes policy,” Ari Afsar stated, emphasizing the potential for creativity to spark meaningful political conversations.
Simi Shah echoed these sentiments, noting the fast-growing South Asian American population in the US and their increasing electoral influence.

“Through this program, we are committed to championing leaders who reflect the values and aspirations of our diverse diaspora and who can mobilize our community in unprecedented ways,” she added.
The initiative includes a diverse lineup of artists, such as actor and producer Devika Bhise, former Miss America Nina Davuluri, author Raakhee Mirchandani, and comedian Rajiv Satyal. Through their artistic platforms, the ambassadors aim to foster deeper connections with their communities, encouraging voter turnout and participation in civic life.
Chintan Patel, executive director of the Indian American Impact Fund, underscored the importance of the program, stating that it reflects the organization’s commitment to connecting with voters through art and culture.
“Art is integral to South Asian communities; it reflects our stories, struggles, and aspirations,” Patel said. He noted that the program not only seeks to influence the 2024 election but also aims to empower these communities for the future.
