 America celebrates Holi with colors, music and culture of India!

Holi, the Indian festival of colors is being celebrated across America with a joyous celebration in the heart of Washington DC and the iconic Times Square in New York adorned with banners of Holi greetings.

The Indian Embassy in the nation’s capital hosted a cultural event at DuPont Circle, while the Indian Consulate in New York adorned the iconic Times Square with banners of Holi greetings, illuminating the heart of the city with the spirit of festivity.

“Holi in the heart of Washington DC @DuPont circle – a joyous celebration resplendent with the colours, music and culture of India!” posted the mission on X. “In India, Holi marks the arrival of spring – this year, it coincides with the cherry blossoms weekend in DC! We wish all of you a Happy Holi!”

“Wishing everyone a colorful and joyous Holi from the heart of New York City. #TimesSquare May the festival of color fill your life with happiness, love, and peace,” the Indian consulate posted.

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken extendedf Holi wishes on Monday, embracing the global celebration of the festival and the arrival of spring with gulal and an explosion of vibrant colours.

Biden and First Lady Jill Biden took to social media to share their sentiments. “Today, millions around the world will join together to celebrate Holi, the arrival of Spring, with gulal and vibrant colors. Jill and I wish all those observing today’s Festival of colors joy and happiness,” Biden tweeted with a picture.

Meanwhile, a couple of other events are planned to celebrate Holi in New York on April 6. Flushing Town Hall will host a Holi Dance Concert featuring classical Indian dance performances by Srijan Dance Company and Anup Das Dance Academy.

The dancers will be joined by tabla and sitar musical performances by Naren Budkar and Abhik Mukherjee, and food vendor Queens Curry Kitchen.

Brooklyn Children’s Museum will host Celebrate Holi, a day-long festival for kids to learn the customs of the widely celebrated Hindu holiday through play, music, dance, art, and food.

Now in its seventh year, BCM’s Celebrate Holi event is by far the most popular program at the Museum with 5,000 attendees last year.
