Ankush Khardori, a noted Indian American journalist and former federal public prosecutor, is joining Politico Magazine as a senior writer to bolster its coverage of “the unprecedented legal and political dynamics” of the 2024 presidential campaign.

Announcing what it called “an exciting new hire on the magazine,” the publication focused on politics described Khardori as “one of the most significant voices in analyzing this unusual moment in legal and political history.”

“This move bolsters a key pillar of the newsroom’s 2024 strategy: coverage of the unprecedented legal and political dynamics of the campaign,” it said noting Donald Trump, a former president and current candidate is facing a vast range of legal challenges, including 91 indictments.

“Ankush, who will helm a reported legal column and write reported stories for the magazine, joins a newly expanded roster of signature voices on the biggest policy and politics issues of the day,” it said.

“He will help us continue to deepen our coverage of areas key to Politico’s mission — in 2024 and beyond.”

Politico described Khardori as “a rare talent — a lawyer/journalist who melds deep hands-on knowledge of the justice system with crisp, authoritative writing, curiosity, tenacity and a reporter’s instinct for a good story.”

Since he made the transition from practicing law to journalism in 2020, he has distinguished himself as one of the most sought-after legal commentators in the country, it said. He has written for Politico Magazine, New York magazine, The New York Times, Slate and more.

His stories for the magazine as a contributing writer have ranged from a deeply reported profile of Merrick Garland to an incisive look at Vivek Ramaswamy’s last stand in Iowa to a piece using original polling on the Trump indictments that drew in nearly 900,000 readers, the publication said.

He clerked for a judge in the Southern District of New York and graduated from Columbia University with a law degree and a BA. He grew up in Springfield, Illinois; he currently lives in Logan Circle in Washington, DC and loves exploring the city.
