Biden names Sharad Harshad Desai to be Arizona District judge
The White House House Monday sent the nomination of Sharad Harshad Desai, of Arizona, to be United States District Judge for the District of Arizona, to the Senate. His nomination was referred to the committee on the Judiciary the same day. If confirmed, Desai would be the first Asian American Article III judge to serve in the District of Arizona.
Announcing his intent to nominate Desai with two others to federal district court on Aug 28, President Joe Biden described them all as “extraordinarily qualified, experienced, and devoted to the rule of law and our Constitution.”
“These choices also continue to fulfill the President’s promise to ensure that the nation’s courts reflect the diversity that is one of our greatest assets as a country—both in terms of personal and professional backgrounds,” the White House said. This will be Biden’s 54th round of nominees for federal judicial positions, bringing the number of announced federal judicial nominees to 257.

Desai has been Vice President and General Counsel for Honeywell International’s Integrated Supply Chain and Information Technology divisions in Phoenix, Arizona since 2023. He has worked in senior legal counsel roles at Honeywell since 2015.
Following his clerkship, Desai worked as an attorney with the Phoenix law firm Osborn Maledon, PA, From 2007 to 2015, first as an associate and later as partner in senior legal counsel roles. He began his legal career serving as a law clerk for Justice Rebecca White Berch on the Arizona Supreme Court from 2006 to 2007.
Desai earned his BA, cum laude, from University of Pittsburg at Johnstown in 2003 and his JD from Widener University Commonwealth Law School in 2006.

Currently, Desai serves as the Vice President and General Counsel for Honeywell International’s Integrated Supply Chain and Information Technology divisions.
