Indian American leader takes a dig at George Stephanopoulos for dismissing her suggestion that Kamala Harris would take over
Former Indian American Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley took a swipe at ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, who dismissed her suggestion last year that President Joe Biden will not finish his White House term.
Haley Tuesday reposted on X a video of her appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America” from last August when she asserted a vote for Biden is a vote for Vice President Kamala Harris. Captioning her repost of the video Tuesday, Haley wrote, “Believe me now, George?”
During the exchange with Stephanopoulos last summer, the former US ambassador to the UN under Trump, said, “There is no way Joe Biden is going to finish his term. I think Kamala Harris is going to be the next president and that should send a chill up every American’s spine.”
Stephanopoulos interjected at the time, “Excuse me. One second about that, how do you know that Joe Biden is not going to finish his term? What is that based on?”
“Ask Americans,” Haley replied, at the time. “We look at the decline he’s had over the last few years. You have to be honest with the American people, George: There’s no way that Joe Biden is going to finish out the next term. We can’t have an 81-year-old president.”
Haley took the dig at Stephanopoulos as Biden faces increasing calls from his own party to step aside from the 2024 race following his disastrous debate performance against former President Trump last week, the Hill noted.
Harris’s name has been repeatedly floated as Biden’s potential replacement should he choose to withdraw from the race. She has doubled down on her support of the president and said Tuesday that she is “proud” to be his running mate.
A CNN poll published Tuesday found she is polling closer to Trump than Biden is.
