Indian American Impact spotlights Washington AG candidate Manka Dhingra
Indian American Impact, a leading community political advocacy organization, has spotlighted the historic candidacy of Manka Dhingra, a two-term Indian American state senator, for Attorney General of Washington State,
Dhingra’s candidacy represents a historic milestone, Impact stated noting, “If elected, Manka will be the first immigrant, the first person of color, and only the second woman to serve as Attorney General in the state’s history. Remarkably, she would also be the first immigrant to hold this office in the history of the United States.”
Dhingra is being spotlighted as part of just ended Immigrant Heritage Month, during which it “honored the legacy of immigrants who continue to step up and make a difference, embodying the spirit of service and leadership.”
“Manka’s journey is a testament to resilience and dedication,” Impact stated noting, “After her father’s untimely passing due to colon cancer, she relocated to California at the age of 13 with her mother to join their relatives.”
“Driven by a desire to serve, Manka’s career in public service began at the Attorney General’s Office, handling Sexually Violent Predator cases, and as a Clerk at the Washington State Supreme Court.

“She then dedicated two decades as a King County Deputy Prosecutor, collaborating with law enforcement, survivors of violence, and advocates for behavioral health and judicial reform to restore lives and ensure justice before serving on Washington’s state senate the past two terms.
“Manka’s motivation to run for office was spurred by the rising levels of fear and uncertainty within minority communities, particularly after recent elections,” Impact stated. “She has been a steadfast voice against hate crimes and discrimination, advocating for the safety and inclusion of all.”
Indian American Impact also expressed its “profound gratitude to all the immigrants who have contributed tirelessly to their communities and to our nation.”
“Despite facing numerous barriers and complexities, South Asian immigrant elected officials have harnessed their lived experiences to effect significant change across the country,” the organization stated.
“Among them are US Representatives Pramila Jayapal, Raja Krishnamoorthi, and Shri Thanedar, Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, over 10 state legislators, and many local elected officials.
“These trailblazing leaders represent the very best of our nation, and we are excited to support and spotlight their incredible achievements,” it said.
