Indian American woman killed by fallen tree in California during Boy Scouts hiking trip

The woman was accompanying her son, a high school senior, on a hiking trip in the Rancho San Antonio County Park.
An Indian American woman was killed on Sunday, when she was hit by a falling tree while on a hiking trip in Cupertino, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The woman, whose name and other details have not been released, was accompanying her son on a Boy Scouts hike.
The Santa Clara Fire Department said on its Twitter handle that, at 10:01 am, its officers responded to reports that “a tree had fallen on an adult female while hiking” and after “being extricated, medical aid was rendered but sadly the patient was declared deceased.”
A source confirmed to the American Bazaar that the deceased was an Indian American, who was accompanying her son, a high school senior.
The incident occurred at Rancho San Antonio County Park, the local ABC News affiliate reported, quoting Santa Clara County Fire Department Captain Matt Mokhtarian.
In a statement released to media organizations, the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council of Boy Scouts of America said the victim was part of the hiking with the group. Here is the statement:
“We are saddened to confirm one adult accidental fatality involving a tree. The deceased is the parent of a Scout and they were participating in a planned hike at the Rancho San Antonio Park. Rangers and EMS were summoned to the scene. We will continue to cooperate with investigating authorities.
“All Scouts are safe and there were no additional injuries. Our emergency response protocols and notifications are currently being followed and we appreciate privacy for the family and Scout unit as they are still being moved from the area and rejoined with their families.”
“No other details have been released at this time.”
