Indian Americans hope ties with India and community will grow stronger under Trump
Prominent Indian Americans have hailed Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential race and expressed the hope that his ties with India and the Indian American community across the country will grow stronger during his tenure.
“We congratulate President Trump on his victory,” stated Sanjeev Joshipura, Indiaspora’s Executive Director. “He has cultivated relations with the Indian American community across the country, and we hope that relationship will grow stronger over the course of his administration.”
“He campaigned primarily on issues like the economy and immigration, which obviously resonated with the country at large,” he added..
Congratulating Trump, the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) stated “elections are the cornerstone of any democracy, and their successful conduct is a powerful reflection of the strength of a nation’s democratic institutions. Both the United States and India are fortunate to have the right to vote enshrined in their constitutions, ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard and that democracy continues to thrive.”
“During his first administration, President Trump made the Indo-Pacific the preeminent focus for Washington’s foreign policy, with the goal of securing a free and open Indo-Pacific,” the statement noted.
“From that auspicious start the relationship has continued to flourish, with deepening partnership across critical and emerging technologies, clean energy, rebuilding supply chains, fortifying our defenses, and cementing people-to-people ties,” it stated
USISPF expressed confidence “that the new Trump administration will maintain the positive momentum in this critical relationship to secure the greatest economic, financial, and national security gains for both countries.”
“We look forward to working with the new administration as it pursues new targets and innovative approaches to strengthen the bilateral relationship between two of the world’s leading democracies,” it added.
Nikki Haley, former South Carolina Governor and US ambassador to UN under Trump, stressed the need for national unity.
In a post on X, Haley stated, “The American people have spoken. Congratulations to President Trump on a strong win. Now, it’s time for the American people to come together, pray for our country, and start the process of a peaceful transition. That begins with Kamala Harris conceding. You can’t just talk about unity in a campaign, you have to show it regardless of the outcome.”
Biotech entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy echoed similar sentiments in posting, “My favorite prediction: a 1980-style electoral *landslide*. It seemed unthinkable back in March 2023. Now it’s reality.” In a separate post, Ramaswamy remarked, “Now let’s go save a country.”
Former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal hailed Trump’s victory. “What a great day for America! Let’s take a moment to celebrate. Then begins the hard work to get our country back on track!” he posted on X.
Indian American venture capitalist Asha Jadeja Motwani also shared her excitement about Trump’s win, predicting significant economic growth under his leadership. “Watch our economy become even more of a rocketship!!. Musk will clean up the regulatory state like no one before,” she posted on X.
Travel explorer, Arvind Ganti saw Trump’s victory as an opportunity to reform immigration policies. “Spot on! Trump has the chance to overhaul the immigration system fully and let talented folks in as a priority; eliminate the green card backlog of Indians; eliminate illegal immigration; fix the Dreamer/DACA/asylum process and focus on making legal immigration straightforward… big legacy opportunity!” Ganti commented on X.
Utsav Sanduja, Founder of Hindus for America First, hailed Trump for his role in averting global conflict. “Congratulations @realDonaldTrump. You just saved the world from WWIII. Conservatism won across the board,” Sanduja said.
