Priyanka Chopra to step away from her restaurant Sona
What seemed like a delicious partnership between food, fashion and films seems to have come to an end. Bollywood to Hollywood success story, actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas has decided to end her partnership with New York City-based eatery Sona.
The upscale, fine diner which was opened in 2021, created a lot of buzz in Indian as well as American gourmet circles. Chopra-Jonas had opened the eatery in partnership with long-time Indian American restrauteur Manish K Goyal.
But it seems, like all good things this partnership also had to come to an end and the Hollywood actor has decided to pull away from the restaurant.
This, however, does not mean that the eatery is closing. According to owner Manish Goyal the restaurant will continue as usual, just without Chopra.
It seems that the two are parting their ways amicably as in a statement to People, Goyal confirmed the news while saying that Sona has Chopra Jonas’ fingerprints all over it.
Sona in Hindi, or Gold was actually a name suggested by Chopra’s husband Nick Jonas. Chopra’s spokesperson also confirmed the news to People.

There are also speculations that post her exit from Sona, Chopra-Jonas may be looking at expanding her hospitality profile globally.
The opening of Sona during the pandemic was seen as a boost to the Indian food scene in the country as a handful of Indian restaurants that had created a mark on the gourmet dining scene in the US got shuttered down.
Masalawala run by Roni Mazumdar and chef Chintan Pandya closed down post pandemic. Another Indian eatery specializing in cuisines from Bombay to Goa run by chef Eric McCarthy shut permanently.
But the good news is despite Chopra Jonas pulling out of her partnership, the restaurant will continue to run. Manish Goyal will be running the restaurant complete with all its special dishes and signature Chopra Jonas personal touches.
Chopra Jonas also brought the restaurant into the instant limelight and has hosted many important personalities and celebrities at her place including Malala Yousafzai.
Sona also remained in the top spots to spot celebs. Last year, former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton were seen dining at the chic Flatiron eatery.
Mike Tyson has been seen dining with a group of friends. The restaurant which got Michelin recognition has also seen Bollywood celebrities such as Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, and Farhan Akhtar besides Indian American entertainers such as Kal Penn and Mindy Kaling.
Along with the eatery, Chopra also launched a line of homeware, linen and dinnerware called Sona Home. While there is no information currently on what happens to their luxe décor line, Chopra Jonas’ departure definitely would be noticed both by celebs and foodies alike.
