Last week, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi traveled to Nassau County, New York, to headline two well-attended campaign events in support of Tom Souzzi to win the upcoming February 13th Special Election for Congress in New York’s 3rd Congressional District. Specifically, Krishnamoorthi joined over approximately 100 South Asian residents from the area to “Get Out the Vote” in support of Tom Suozzi’s campaign and to raise funds to support his campaign shortly before election day.

“Tom served with me on the U.S.-India Caucus, and during my first term in Congress we traveled to India together,” the Congressman shared. “He knows the key issues impacting our diverse community and has a proven track record of fighting for us when it matters most. As far as I’m concerned, he’s an honorary Desi!”

South Asian turnout will be key to this election on February 13th, and the winner of this race will play a big difference in the balance of power in Washington, where the Republicans hold a razor thin majority over Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Furthermore, in New York’s 3rd Congressional District, individuals of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) origin represent 17.6 percent of the population.

When asked about Tom Suozzi’s opponent in this race, the congressman added: “She just doesn’t know our community like Tom does….The choice is clear. Please go out and vote for Tom, and get out all of your friends and family to get out and vote as well.”
