Trump campaign, allies launch attack to discredit Kamala Harris

Amid mounting speculation that she could replace Biden as Democratic presidential nominee, Trump calls her Laffin’ Kamala Harris

Amid mounting speculation that Kamala Harris could replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic White House nominee, former President Donald Trump has nicknamed Indian American vice president as “Laffin” Kamala Harris.

“Also, respects to our potentially new Democrat Challenger Laffin’ Kamala Harris,” Trump, known for giving his political opponents nicknames, wrote in a Truth Social post on Thursday.

“She did poorly in the Democrat Nominating process, starting out at Number Two, and ending up defeated and dropping out, before getting to Iowa, but that doesn’t mean she’s not a ‘highly talented’ politician!”

The comment is in reference to Harris who is well-known for her laugh, which has even been mimicked by a Harris impersonator on TikTok, Newsweek noted.

Trump has been ramping up attacks on Harris as calls for Biden to step down as the Democratic nominee have grown louder following his rocky performance in the CNN’s Presidential Debate. In a newly released clip, Trump called Harris “bad” and “pathetic.”

Harris is still supporting Biden in the presidential race. “Look, Joe Biden is our nominee. We beat Trump once, and we’re going to beat him again,” Harris said on CBS News on Tuesday.

This is not the first time Trump has given a nickname to a political opponent. He has called Biden “Sleepy Joe,” “Slow Joe” and “Crooked Joe.”

Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign and some of his allies have launched a pre-emptive political strike on Harris, moving swiftly to try to discredit her, Reuters reported.

On social media and in a flurry of statements over the past 48 hours, Trump’s campaign and his Republican allies appear to be laying the groundwork for an all-out assault on Harris should the 81-year-old Biden decide to end his re-election bid.

In sharp and seemingly coordinated attacks on Harris, the National Republican Congressional Committee, which oversees House Republican races, called her Biden’s “enabler in chief.”

MAGA Inc, a fundraising super PAC supporting Trump, released a statement calling her the “invasion czar.” In March 2021 Biden said Harris would lead efforts with Mexico and Central American nations to address illegal immigration.

Republicans have seized on that to accuse her of failing to stem the flow of millions of migrants crossing illegally into the United States, although she was never directly responsible for securing the southern border, Reuters said.

“Kamala Harris is incompetent. She’s proven to be the weakest, worst vice president in history, and she has 100% supported Joe Biden in every single disastrous policy that he has implemented over the last four years,” said Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign.

The Biden campaign pushed back against the escalating Republican criticism of Harris without addressing the question of whether the vice president is waiting in the wings.

“Vice President Harris is proud to be President Biden’s running mate,” Rhyan Lake, a campaign spokesperson for Harris, was quoted as saying. “No matter what false attacks Trump and his extreme allies make, she will continue to defend the Biden-Harris record and prosecute the case against Donald Trump.”
