 USIBC launches AI Task Force to shape AI policy and innovation

Bala Subramanian (UPS), Akash Shah (BNY Mellon), and Inderpreet Sawhney (Infosys) join advisory body to drive collaboration and innovation

US-India Business Council (USIBC) launched its AI Task Force, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at shaping AI policy and innovation, with an inaugural virtual meeting of industry leaders to drive collaboration and explore synergy in key sectors.

The discussion at the inaugural virtual Al-TF meeting on April 25, focused on cross-sector collaboration against the backdrop of Al’s growing prominence, according to a press release from the leading India-Us business advocacy organization.

USIBC’s Task Force objective is to align and drive U.S. and Indian leadership in the Al ecosystem, promote common Al concepts/principles within national and multistakeholder processes, and ensure the competitiveness of our industries to develop, leverage, and commercialize Al technologies for the benefit of each country’s democratic citizenries.

The event brought together industry leaders from advanced technology sectors such as logistics, semiconductor design and manufacturing, commercial electronics, biotechnology, telecommunications, space, defense, information technology, and financial services, the release stated. The event also offered a platform for exploring cooperation and synergy in key areas critical to global growth, economic competitiveness, and national security.

USIBC President Atul Keshap stated, “Our Al Task Force marks a bold stride toward a future where Al not only revolutionizes industries and lives, but also reinforces free societies. With unwavering commitment, USIBC spearheads this transformative journey alongside leading USIBC Board and Corporate members.

“As we navigate the newfound terrain of Al advancement, these collaborations underscore our resolve to ensure the great democracies can utilize technology in ways that strengthen the ties between our nations and support citizen-led prosperity.”

USIBC also announced the addition of the leading business executives Bala Subramanian (Executive Vice President and Chief Digital and Technology Officer at UPS), Akash Shah (Chief Growth Officer and Global Head of Growth Ventures at BNY Mellon), and Inderpreet Sawhney (Group General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, Infosys Limited) to its Artificial Intelligence (Al) Board Advisory Committee.

This expansion aims to strengthen USIBC’s efforts in driving collaboration and innovation in the rapidly evolving field of Al by relying on the top business talent in America and India.

“I’m pleased to join the Al Advisory Committee at the USIBC,” said Bala Subramanian, Executive Vice President and Chief Digital and Technology Officer at UPS. “This is an important group that creates strong partnerships between businesses and the governments of India and the United States. UPS has been a technology company for more than a century, and we’re excited to share learnings from our Al journey.”

“It is a privilege to be part of Al Advisory Committee,” said Inderpreet Sawhney, Group General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, Infosys. “At Infosys, we attach great significance to the responsible rollout of Al, which is also one of the key focus areas of the Advisory Committee.

As part of this Committee, I am eager to share our experiences around the techno-legal aspects of Al that Infosys had the opportunity to shape. With our combined talent pool and data resources, the collaboration between India and the U.S. has tremendous value to unlock.”

USIBC also announced Meta as the Co-chair of the USIBC Al Task Force. Meta’s extensive industry knowledge and resources will play a key role in guiding initiatives that promote responsible and inclusive Al solutions for critical societal challenges.

Keshap expressed his enthusiasm about the new additions, stating, “As we advance our Al Task Force, we are thrilled to welcome these exceptional individuals to our esteemed Al Board Advisory Committee alongside Meta as the Co-chair of our Al Task Force.

“Their leadership and expertise will play a crucial role in shaping our strategic approach to Al, enabling us to navigate the challenges and opportunities across various sectors such as business, biotechnology, healthcare, logistics, and technology. Their invaluable contributions will help elevate USIBC’s influence and advocacy in harnessing the transformative power of Al.”

Established in 1975 at the behest of the US and Indian Governments, the USIBC represents hundreds of top global companies operating across the United States, India, and the Indo-Pacific.
